Role summary / purpose
Senior Project Controls Specialists (SrPCS) provide the skills, structure, and discipline needed to help project teams deliver work safely, efficiently, and predictably. Through accurate cost, schedule, scope, risk, and performance reporting, we enable informed decision-making, strengthen accountability, and support successful project outcomes from planning through execution.
Key responsibilities
- Apply senior-level project controls expertise in core competency areas, mostly scheduling, cost forecasting, variance analysis, change control management, and governance/procedural compliance
- Partner with cross-functional teams across project execution, project controls, and ensure accurate, consistent and on time reporting
- Serve as a technical subject matter expert for reporting tools, data aggregation, analysis, and performance metrics
- Lead the development, assembly, validation, distribution, and archiving of monthly and project performance reports
- Lead development and generation of daily, weekly, monthly and project controls reports, including gathering, verifying, validating and analyzing data
- Oversee project-level change control and track changes to project scope, schedule and cost baseline in compliance with internal governance standards
- Oversee project controls benchmarking and self-assessment initiatives, identifying improvement opportunities and best practices
- Demonstrate senior-level knowledge of project schedules, cost estimates, variance analysis, earned value and critical path analyses
- Collaborate with Estimators and Project Controls Analysts to establish effective cost controls management baselines
- Maintain effective relationships with key team members and stakeholders, supporting resolution of quality issues
Requirements – education & experience
- 4 year degree in business, finance, project management, engineering, technical, or equivalent and 5+ years of prior work related experience OR 9+ years of related experience in lieu of degree
- Proficiency and expertise with project management and project controls concepts, computer applications, and analytics
- Strong collaborative team member with strong analytical background and communication skills
Required skills
- High level of technical proficiency with Excel
- Strong analytical judgment and questioning attitude
- Ability to interpret project information into project schedules and cost forecasts
- Ability to perform root cause analysis and articulate findings to leadership
Nice-to-have / preferred skills
- Masters degree in business, finance, project management, or equivalent
- PMI or AACE certification (PMP, CAPM, PMI-SP, AACE-CCC, AACE-PSP, AACE-CEP, AACE-EVP)
- Experience with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Project Management Office (PMO), Business Intelligence (BI) tools, and reporting dashboards
- Software proficiency: Ecosys, advanced MS Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, slicers), MS Office Suite, MS Power BI, MS Project Server, Oracle Primavera P6, Power Plan, Maximo
- Risk management tools such as SWORD
Employment details – type, location, hours
Hybrid: 3 days onsite with occasional site visits encouraged. Some travel required for occasional field trips to project sites and annual business unit workshops (approximately 10%).
